COMMUNITY KITCHEN - LANGAR

Sat Nam dear family,

it's with much delight we announce our new like-minded, like-hearted, Bhakti yogis Krishna Gana and Veida who will be cooking nourishing vegetarian yogic style food at our next festival. We're excited and relieved as we have been searching far and wide to find just the right kind of people who could bring that same kind of ethos and sensibility to the way we Kundalini Yogis approach and relate to food, and they were just down the road the whole time.

Yogi Bhajan often talked about the importance of creating a conscious respectful relationship with what you eat. He emphasised eating well, eating light, treating food as medicine, blessing the food and sharing meals together in community - Langar.

A big part of the Sikh tradition is “Guru Ka Langar” Langar, or the community kitchen, and began as a tradition of serving langar (food) at each Gurdwara, to the whole community regardless of social status, gender or faith. Langar creates a space for all walks of life, to come sit, share a meal, everyone is welcome to share the langar; no one is turned away. Langar teaches the virtue of sitting and eating with the community and that all human beings are equal and it provides a welcome, secure and protected sanctuary to all.

At the Golden Temple Community Kitchen, on average, 75,000 devotees or tourists are served langar each day. On special occasions, that number can double. Hundreds of employees and devotees help to prepare the daily meals. We will be bringing our much smaller version of langar back to this year's festival and what better way to do it with the delicious, nourishing food served by these two beautiful Bhakits.

KRISHNA GANA

Krishna Gana, KG for short has been practicing Bhakti yoga for 20 years now and for most of that time he has been involved with their kitchens cooking yummy blessed vegetarian food!

He's been part of Govindas since they started in Burleigh heads on the Gold Coast about 15 years ago. After a year or so he began to manage their festival catering programs, traveling to music festivals up and down the East coast of Australia. That was his main service until 2020 due to Covid. He then returned to their restaurants to help start their commercial kitchen where he cooks for their 3 restaurants.

VEIDA

Veida recently completed her level one Kundalini Yoga teacher training on the North Coast as part of continuing her spiritual journey. She's a plant-based foodie from way back and has been growing & sharing this passion at Krishna Village Kitchen for the past year and a half.

At the village she cooks nourishing meals for the village every day, and at their festivals she helps spread the knowledge of healthy, vegetarian cooking!  This will be her first catering cook-up, but she knows she is in good hands with her mentor KG,

They send their blessings and look forward to meeting everyone on this amazing retreat and sharing a meal together.

The T BAR  is back again and will be serving yummy snacks, treats, teas and chai along with a special addition this year - The Adi Shakti healthy juice. All this and more be available at the FESTIVAL TBAR.
